How to begin.
›How do I start?
You choose a project type: Website, Web shop, Web app or Compass, or you start blank; for each type you see in one sentence where the journey is heading. Then a three-step wizard follows: type, template, confirm. The result is a filled board with the right tasks for your type.
›What does it cost to start?
Soon you start for free. The paid plans will be available to order soon. You can export your bookkeeping.
›What is in the free plan?
One project on the path, the board with your next step, and the knowledge base and Signal, plus the weekly digest with a free archive. Signal and the digest are written in Dutch.

›What is on the board?
Three columns, tasks with checklists, priority, deadlines with reminders, recurring tasks and your own labels. And above the board, always one recommended next step: you always know what to do now.
›Do I build in basestep or in my own AI tool?
›How do I go live?
You go live with real help at the technical step: the recipe for going live and the health check, covering secure, findable and the legal minimum. You take your project live yourself by following the recipe, and you tick off the step. The steps themselves are in the guide from prototype to live.
›And after that?
Getting found, maintaining, earning. The platform sets up maintenance tasks automatically for each project type, so a product does not quietly fall into decay.

›What are skills?
Ready-made knowledge in learning paths: from strategy and copywriting to development, security and the legal side.
›What do I get with a UI component?
Copyable parts in HTML and React: you view html components live in a sandboxed environment; react components come as code with a props table. Every component comes with an AI prompt.
›What does a template do?
Complete starter packs that fill your board with tasks and the matching building blocks in a single action; some of the templates include a recipe for going live. With versions and a changelog; never changes you did not ask for.
›What is Signal?
Signal is the editorial AI newspaper in the platform. The weekly digest is the edition you receive by email, with a free archive. No noise, just direction, with human final editing before anything goes out. Signal and the digest are written in Dutch.
›Is the archive free?
The archive is free, for everyone. Every edition stays searchable.

The tax explanation on this page follows Dutch law and is written for Dutch sole proprietorships (eenmanszaak). This is general information, not tax or legal advice. basestep calculates and explains; you file yourself. If you are unsure about your situation, consult an adviser. basestep does not answer personal tax questions.
›Does basestep file my tax return?
No, deliberately not. You file yourself through Mijn Belastingdienst Zakelijk (the Dutch tax authority portal); we prepare every field for you and explain it. That way you stay in charge of your own business.
›I already have a bookkeeper.
You keep him if you want. The platform explains every box and delivers an export for your accountant. With stock, foreign income, rental, several businesses, a complex car situation, exempt supplies or the margin scheme, we refer you to an adviser instead.
›What does the tax engine do?
The engine calculates your VAT (btw) per box and gives an estimate of your income tax; the Belastingdienst (the Dutch tax authority) sets the assessment. The engine keeps track of your kleineondernemersregeling (KOR, the Dutch small businesses VAT scheme), works out how much to set aside, and says honestly when something is outside its scope. You file yourself and understand exactly what you are doing.
›And if something is outside the scope of the engine?
For this you need an adviser; we do not guess. Take your export to your adviser: the bookkeeping is in it, and you keep your receipts yourself.

›Can I cancel monthly?
Paying is not possible yet: the paid plans will be available to order soon. Once you can order, the monthly plans can be cancelled monthly.
›What if you shut down?
Then you export your bookkeeping: invoices, journal, general ledger and the XAF audit file. You keep receipts yourself, because the platform does not store files. Data ownership is a design principle, not a promise after the fact.
›Where do my receipts go?
You keep your receipts yourself: the platform does not store files.
›Do I have to link my bank?
You import bank statements and match them, without a link. CAMT.053, MT940 or CSV: your bank remains your business.
