basestep is a Dutch platform that helps makers of an AI prototype turn it into a real business, with the bookkeeping of a sole proprietorship (eenmanszaak) included.
The story
The observation
The story does not begin with a person but with an observation. The AI building wave did something beautiful and something bitter: a great many people now build a prototype in an afternoon, and the vast majority get no further. No domain, no certainty, no income, no idea what comes first. Friends and forums full of beautiful prototypes that were not online anywhere. The cliff is not a lack of talent; it is a lack of guidance.
The second cliff
The first people who did make money panicked about VAT (btw) and invoices. As soon as you make money with your project, bookkeeping comes into view: VAT, invoices and a seven-year obligation to keep your records. And there was no bookkeeping that explained things instead of hiding them.
So it got built as well
Not yet another building tool, but the path after the building tool: a guided journey from first prompt to real business. Underneath are real journal entries, a verifiable audit log with a hash chain and an XAF audit file, plus a tax engine that explains every cent down to the legal reference. You keep your receipts yourself: the platform does not store files. The mission: to bring everyone who builds something with AI over the cliff: live, professional and earning, with a full understanding of their own business.
